Aggressive behaviour - Continuing education at Oristano Hospital

A new mission with hospitals

On 16 April we began a new accredited training cycle on a subject as sensitive as it is fundamental: managing aggressive behaviour in hospital settings.

Three hospitals involved in Sardinia (ASL 5): Oristano, Bosa, Ghilarza 150 professionals trained in 4 months

Objectives of managing aggressive behaviour

  • Putting the human being back at the centre of conflict
  • Staying true to the hospital’s mission

A practical course to learn how to:

  • Negotiate calmly and clearly
  • Protect yourself without resorting to violence
  • Act as a team
  • And above all… stop enduring it (yes!)

Empathy: a goal and a remedy

Behind every aggressive act often lies poorly expressed suffering, an unmet need, or accumulated tension. Learning to recognise these signals is the first step towards a response that’s more effective, safer, and above all more human.

For care staff, knowing how to handle these situations isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity. Training means protecting yourself, protecting your colleagues and patients, and contributing to a calmer, fairer hospital environment for everyone.

Each training module draws on real cases, lived experiences and everyday scenarios. It’s not just theory: we work together on how to react, what to say, when to act… and when to stop.

Because the quality of care doesn’t depend only on clinical skill, but also on the ability to communicate, listen, and stay calm, even when everything around you seems to be tipping over.
